Jan Oystein Aksnes' parents May Britt Aksnes advised her to use music for the sake of personal development, and not for the purpose of making money or for an interest. This led to her began to write songs of her own. She is credited with Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Bjork as being her influences. After her mother said that the songs she composed could be used to not make her famous rather to help people to realize the value of themselves and their impact on this world, she began singing them in public. She started playing piano when she was only six and was writing her first song when she was nine. It was unknown by her family until she reached the age of fourteen. Aurora had no idea of being famous. The singer claims she is a fan of composing music. She says that music is her most preferred way to feel anything.
